Meet Our Team
Daniel Hai, PsyD
License No. PSY31877
Dr. Daniel Hai is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist who combines the latest research with the knowledge he has gained in his years of practice and lifelong study of both western and eastern psychotherapy treatments.
He is passionate about helping clients. His practice incorporates a humanistic approach that recognizes the uniqueness of each individual. Custom assessments and treatment plans are one way this approach is evident in his practice. Instead of treating a diagnosis, Dr. Hai’s treatment plans consider the whole person from a holistic view that seeks to identify and resolve the root of the problem rather than just treating symptoms.
Dr. Hai’s mission is to increase empathy and self-awareness through the utility of culturally competent assessments and evidence-based interventions. Culturally competent treatments are part of the holistic approach. Culture matters; Dr. Hai will consider your culture when your assessment and treatment plan is developed.
Dr. Hai is an experienced neuropsychologist and brain-behavior specialist who analyses assessments and produces reports for a diverse population and age range that cover a wide range of serious issues rooted in neurological disorders, psychiatric conditions, personal injury cases, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, personality disorders, acculturation stress, head injury, and other ethical concerns.
Dr. Hai received professional experience, training, and education at Berkeley, Cal State University, Northridge, Neuropsychology Clinics, UCLA, Fielding, Ryokan College, School of Forensic Studies, and Cedars Sinai. His post-doctoral clinical neuropsychology degree was obtained from Fielding Graduate University.
Dr. Hai provides training and treatment. His clinical experiences include treatment for violent adults. Furthermore, he runs adolescent and adult female and male therapy groups that focus on family dynamics, self-harm prevention, cognitive rehabilitation, mood regulation, and trauma coping strategies. Dr. Hai is a published author and an associate editor of, “The International Journal of Psychology and Neuroscience.”
His Neuro Cognitive Therapy is a proprietary treatment developed as the result of years of practice and study. Drawing from multiple disciplines including neuropsychology, cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness principles, Lurian research, attachment theory, and acceptance and commitment therapy, Dr. Hai’s Neuro Therapy provides solutions that help individuals who are suffering.
Creating a safe environment where clients can focus on healing using proven techniques is important to Dr. Hai and his staff. Clients age 13 through senior citizens are treated at the Neuro Assessment Center. If a younger person needs services, a referral can be made.
If you’re looking for strong advocates that want to help you be well, the Neuro Assessment Center is here to help with assessments, therapy, service animal prescriptions, and documentation you might need for your employer, lawyer, or school.
Edward Gutierrez, MA
Edward Gutierrez comes to the Neuro Assessment Center as a pre-internship psychological assistant and a clinical psychology PhD candidate at Fielding Graduate University with more than five years of clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, residential, court-mandated, and medical settings. With a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Channel Islands and a Master’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Long Beach, he initially leveraged his education toward the field of forensics. While working with patients struggling to end the painful cycle of opioid relapse in a methadone-maintenance treatment program, however, the overarching pattern of stigma regarding the need for mental health treatment and the need for medication to manage a neurological chemical imbalance-became the focus of Edward’s doctoral dissertation. Specifically, he looked at the affective (i.e., feelings of shame) route to relapse among patients reporting experienced or perceived stigmatization regarding their treatment.
Over the course of his training, Edward has developed and refined his clinical skills in such evidence-based treatments as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), and interpersonal social rhythm therapy (IPSRT) through formal education and practical training. Combining these treatments with such somatic- and existential-based modalities as gestalt therapy, he has helped patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, socio-economic circumstances, and life stages to confidently and purposefully navigate a range of diagnoses, from occasional depression or anxiety to severe, persistent mental health problems. Informed by his research on the deleterious effects of mental health stigmatization on recovery, Edward recognizes the importance of treating the patient with empathy, compassion, and most importantly, as a unique individual with strengths to build upon and challenges to overcome.
