Frequently Asked Questions

Here is where you’ll find some of the more common questions our clients have. If you have a question that is not covered here, please ask. We want to help!

What happens during a Neuropsychological Assessment?

The Neuro Assessment Center uses a variety of evidenced-based assessments to test for and develop effective treatment plans to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of conditions. “Evidence-based” means that researchers have found that the test procedures produce relevant results during clinical trials.” In other words, the testing methods have been tested by experts.

Each assessment is overseen by Dr. Hai who is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist. The assessment process begins with an intake session that may last up to two hours. Following the intake session, Dr. Hai creates a custom assessment process for the client to make sure their needs are met, and their questions are answered. Before the intake session, clients are asked to complete a confidential comprehensive questionnaire which includes a medical and social history.

The test batteries are uniquely combined and created to fit each client’s needs, and psychotherapy treatment goals. Dr. Hai oversees all assessments and customizes each testing experience.

What is the purpose of a neuropsychological assessment?

The tests measure and assess cognitive and socio-emotional functioning. Moreover, they help identify attention, memory, cognitive impairments, social functioning issues, academic problems, or are used for psychotherapy purposes.

The results of the test provide the client and patient with knowledge that helps them develop a treatment plan tailored to the client’s unique needs.

How should I prepare for my neuropsychological assessment?

It is important to get a good night’s sleep the night before your assessment. Sleep deprivation (lack of sleep) can have a negative effect on brain function.

On the day of testing, we ask that you eat a good breakfast (something light and not too heavy like oatmeal, avocado toast, water, and coffee) to make sure you’re feeling good.

Is neuropsychological testing hard or painful?

No. The assessment is completely non-invasive and quality controlled. Most clients relay that testing is fun! It’s filled with puzzles and clients even relay they can’t wait to get their results back to learn more about themselves, how to reduce their suffering, and how to better reach their personal goals.

Although your assessment can take from a couple of hours to six hours to complete, you are welcome to take bathroom breaks and drink water during the assessment. A lunch beak of 30 to 60 minutes is provided after a few hours. Testing will usually resume after lunch. Sometimes test days are broken up if schedule issues arise or if clients need a break. We will work with you to make sure the results are accurate and that you are feeling unjudged and safe throughout the process.

What happens after my neuropsychology assessment is completed?

After the assessment is finished Dr. Hai and his staff score the assessments and quality control all scoring to ensure accuracy of each test. This process is rigorous and detail-oriented in nature and can take up to 3-4 hours.

Next Dr. Hai reviews all assessment data, observations, notes, medical history, and the information gathered during the intake process before analyzing the results. After results are critically analyzed and carefully interpreted, a comprehensive neuropsychological report is created to answer the client’s questions and to create a quality treatment plan.

You will return for a feedback session where results are explained in clear understandable language to ensure clients comprehend their results. During this time, Dr. Hai explains useful recommendations and graphs results so clients can see them visually. Clients are then welcome to use our treatment services or ask for any appropriate referrals.

All results, test data, questionnaires, and reports are confidential as stated in our confidentiality policy and are never released without consents and ethical care.
