Adult ADHD and Autism Differential Assessment

Neuro Assessment Center provides neuropsychological assessment for adults who are trying to better understand longstanding patterns involving attention, executive functioning, social processing, emotional regulation, sensory sensitivity, rigidity, burnout, or difficulty sustaining daily functioning.

Many adults seek evaluation after years of partial explanations. Some have been told they are anxious, depressed, unmotivated, avoidant, gifted, or overwhelmed, yet still feel that something important has not been fully understood. Others begin questioning ADHD or autism later in life after noticing patterns of masking, exhaustion, inconsistency, overstimulation, social fatigue, or difficulty translating insight into action.

ADHD and autism can overlap with trauma, anxiety, mood instability, personality dynamics, sleep disruption, substance use, and chronic stress. A careful evaluation helps clarify whether the clinical picture is best explained by ADHD, autism spectrum features, trauma-related patterns, executive dysfunction, emotional dysregulation, or several factors interacting at once.

The goal is not simply to assign a label. The goal is to understand how the person actually functions in real life — including attention, organization, flexibility, processing style, emotional regulation, relationships, treatment response, and daily execution.

Evaluations include a detailed clinical interview, individualized testing, symptom and personality measures when appropriate, behavioral observations, record review when relevant, feedback, and a written report with practical recommendations. Findings are translated into language that can support treatment planning, self-understanding, family communication, academic or occupational accommodations when appropriate, and next steps.

This work is especially useful when prior diagnoses have felt incomplete, when symptoms overlap across multiple categories, or when a deeper level of diagnostic clarification is needed.
